The 1975 murder of Constance’s boyfriend, Vito Borelli, by her father, Paul Castellano, was one of the most important moments in her life.
After learning that Borelli had made a comparison between him and well-known Perdue Farms owner and spokesperson Frank Perdue, Castellano reportedly became furious.
Court records from 2004 show that Joseph Massino, a government witness and the former head of the Bonanno crime organisation, acknowledged killing Borelli in return for Castellano’s favour.
Constance, then eighty-two, later wed Frank Amato. They had an unhappy marriage due to accusations of adultery and domestic violence. On these grounds, Constance and Amato had divorced by 1973.
Even after their marriage ended, Castellano is said to have given the order for Amato’s murder in September 1980.
Furthermore, the FBI files reveal that the crime implicated the notorious mobster Roy DeMeo, who dismembered Amato’s body and disposed of the parts at sea.
Nevertheless, Constance moved with her mother to a new residence following her parents’ divorce, which was brought on by Nina Castellano’s revelation of Paul’s extramarital affair with their Colombian servant, Gloria Olarte.
She allegedly turned reclusive and almost ever left her mother’s side. Constance maintained a tight relationship with her mother at this time, according to FBI Special Agent Joseph O’Brien.
